About Traditional Dental Implants
Traditional dental implants are artificial tooth roots that are surgically anchored into place in the jawbone and gum tissue. Over a period of several months, the dental implants fuse with the natural bone structure in your mouth, effectively achieving the same level of stability as natural tooth roots.
Different appliances can be supported with traditional dental implants, including an individual dental crown for a single missing tooth and multiple dental implants for a full denture.
Ideal Candidates for Traditional Dental Implants
Ideal candidates for dental implants are people who have sufficient jawbone density in place in the area of the missing tooth or teeth. They should be in good overall health and not suffer from medical issues that would make oral surgery a risk to general wellness.
About All-on-4
All-on-4 is a system that uses dental implants to treat tooth loss. In this system, just four dental implants are required to replace all missing teeth. By placing the dental implants strategically along the dental arch, patients can have their entire upper or lower row of teeth replaced and dental wellness restored.
All-on-4 cannot be used for single-tooth replacement. The system is specifically designed for people who are missing all of their teeth along the upper or lower arch.
Ideal Candidates for All-on-4
The best candidates for All-on-4 are people who have suffered complete tooth loss along the upper dental arch or lower dental arch. They should have good bone density in place and a properly aligned dental arch overall. They should also be in good health such that oral surgery poses no risks to wellness.
Discussing Treatments in More Detail with You
Both traditional implant dentistry and All-on-4 are great ways to smile with confidence and eat your favorite foods. Each system provides greater stability than removable dental appliances and traditional bridges. That said, not everyone is ideal for implant dentistry. You may require additional oral surgery to prepare your dental arch (e.g., bone grafting), or the risks may simply outweigh the benefits.
