Same-day Dental Crown Benefits By Stephen Malki on June 27, 2019

CEREC same-day dental crownsTooth fractures, tooth decay, and dental erosion can all have negative effects on the appearance of your smile as well as your dental health. Thankfully, placing dental crowns can strengthen damaged teeth, restoring your ability to bite and chew. Dr. Stephen Malki has placed many dental crowns on Bergen County, NJ patients.

The team at Malki Dental is pleased to offer same-day dental crowns using advanced technology. These same-day crowns have numerous advantages for patients that we’d like to share with you. Before getting into the advantages of same-day dental crowns, let’s look at traditional dental crowns and why they’re not so convenient.

Traditional Dental Crowns

While a dental crown can be helpful in treating tooth decay and fractures, there’s a process involved in creating the crown and placing it. It requires two dental visits about a week or two apart.

First, the damaged tooth is prepped and an impression is taken of that prepped tooth. This impression is sent to an off-site dental lab. Patients will wear a temporary crown in the meantime. Once the final crown is completed, the patient returns to the practice for it to be adhered securely in place.

How Same-Day Dental Crowns Work

Thanks to CEREC® technology, a dental crown can be created in the same day as a patient’s visit to the practice. CEREC is a self-contained milling unit that creates a crown from a complete block of dental ceramic. The digital impression data is fed into the milling unit to create the custom crown.

In essence, CEREC brings the dental lab into our dental practice, and it uses advanced technology to make same-day crowns possible.

A Custom Crown in a Single Visit

One of the biggest advantages of same-day crowns is that patients only need to visit the practice once. That means less time away from work and fewer interruptions in your schedule. Many of our Bergen County patients remark on how convenient it is to only make one trip for their custom crown.

A Custom Crown While You Wait

Creating the custom same-day crown will take a little bit of time, but at least you can pass this time relaxing at our practice. You’ll spend part of your morning or afternoon waiting for the crown to be milled, but it won’t be a terrible inconvenience at all.

No Need for a Temporary Crown

While waiting for the same-day crown to be completed, you will not need to wear a temporary crown in the meantime. And just think that with a traditional crown, you’d have to wear a temporary crown for several days.

Excellent Quality Comparable to Dental Lab Crowns

The slab of dental ceramic used to create a CEREC crown is of similar if not the same quality as the material used at a state-of-the-art dental lab. That’s one of the best aspects of same-day crowns. They are quickly made and convenient, but they are not of poor quality. A CEREC crown is durable, tooth-colored, and exceptionally realistic.
