How Do Cleanings and Exams Encourage Good Oral Health?

Routine dental cleanings and examinations are critical to maintaining good oral health. Patients of all ages can benefit from an exam and teeth cleaning at our practice for:

Cleaner Teeth

If you've ever felt something gritty on your teeth, you may have plaque or tartar. These are common problems, but a dentist is needed to resolve them. That's where Dr. Malki comes in to help, eliminating plaque and bacteria for a cleaner, healthier smile.

Healthier Gums

Plaque and tartar buildup on a tooth or the gumline can cause gum inflammation. Teeth cleanings allow our dentist to remove tartar and the infection-causing bacteria that contributes to gum disease.

Early Treatment

During your cleaning, we can also identify any dental concerns in their earliest stages. This can stop tooth decay from turning a cavity into a root canal infection, or stop gingivitis from becoming gum disease.

Have Questions About Tooth Care Techniques?

/

Dr. Malki can help. At your next dental visit, ask him to show you the proper way to brush and floss. He can also recommend toothpaste, toothbrushes, and floss to best maintain your smile.

How Often Do I Need a Teeth Cleaning?

Children and adults alike should have professional dental exams and cleanings at least twice a year.

Some patients will need to visit us more often, particularly if they have conditions that require monitoring and periodic treatment, such as periodontal disease.

Good home care can make your cleanings simpler. It can also prevent potential concerns that need more visits to resolve.

Ready for a Cleaning? Here's What to Expect

Prevent future problems and protect your oral health with a professional teeth cleaning at Malki Dental.

Our family dentistry practice can serve patients of all ages. We take a gentle approach to cleanings and will do everything possible to ensure your comfort each step of the way.

Professional Cleaning

One of our hygienists will perform your dental cleaning at our Bergen County, NJ, office. They will use a scaling instrument that gently but thoroughly eliminates tartar and plaque from the tooth surfaces and along the gum line.

Your teeth will then be polished with an electric brush and a specialized toothpaste. Finally, the hygienist will floss your teeth.

Additional Treatments

Patients may also receive a fluoride treatment that adds another protective element to the teeth, helping keep dental decay at bay.

Some patients may be scheduled to undergo additional treatments, such as scaling and root planing, to combat mild periodontal disease.

Dental Examination

Dr. Malki will conduct a visual examination of your teeth, gums, and any restorations, such as dental crowns, keeping an eye out for the slightest sign of decay or infection. He will also make sure that all your tartar has been removed. He will then perform an oral cancer screening to identify abnormal tissues in the mouth, around the mouth, and near the throat.

Health Screenings

You will also be screened for symptoms of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder, such as jaw misalignment. Dr. Malki will ask if you have experienced any symptoms and examine your jaw joints. Lastly, if you or your child still has wisdom teeth, we will periodically monitor their placement in the jaw and health, if they have erupted.

Digital X-Rays

We may take x-rays of your mouth to evaluate the integrity and structure of your teeth, jaw, and restorations.

Digital x-rays are an important and trusted diagnostic tool, helping our dentist assess damage and decay and make treatment plans based on your needs.

Dr Malki has been my dentist and my children’s dentist and now my granddaughters dentist. Always a pleasure seeing him. I held off going post COVID-19 until today. I’m writing to tell everyone there is nothing to be nervous about. His office has top of the line air filtration machines in all the rooms. Staff masked. New air suction machine while work done on teeth. Disposable one time use covers and gowns. He also has a new dental hygienist named Jackie who has a very gentle touch in teeth cleaning. Highly recommend her. Don’t postpone any longer.
